ARIZONA TELEPHONE CENTRAL OFFICE'S

Central Offices in the State of Arizona:

The majority of Arizona is considered rural or remote.  The central offices serving the region are typically small, remote switches connected to host offices by microwave, fiber or coaxial cable.  The main carrier is Qwest which was US West whom took the original offices operated by Mountain Bell prior to 1984.  There are numerous smaller independent companies that serve some of the remote areas including the larger Frontier which took over Citizens Utilities.  Other smaller companies that operate central offices include Table Top Telephone Company, Southwestern Telephone Company, Gila River Telecom, and Arizona Telephone.  Telephone service to the various Indian reservations is provided by the Navajo Communications company.
