CALIFORNIA STATE TELEPHONE CENTRAL OFFICE'S
|
AREA CODE 323
Area code 323 was a split from the original 213 area code in 1998. Due to the rapid growth of fax machine, pager and cellular telephone numbers the existing 213 area code was becoming severely impacted. As such, it was decided that the 213 area code would just keep the core downtown Los Angeles and adjacent areas, while 323 would completely surround the original 213 code. The 323 code would encompass most of the remaining areas of central Los Angeles, including Hollywood, East Los Angeles, Watts and the neighboring cities of Bell, Huntington Park, and Montebello.
