AT&T LAS VEGAS TOLL OFFICE
The Las Vegas toll office for AT&T is a relatively new site considering some of the older offices around the nation. Las Vegas itself is a relatively "new" city having had its start of true growth in the late 1940s. The AT&T toll office was constructed in the early 1960s, spurred by the fact that Nellis Air Force Base and the Nevada Test Site were just a few miles north, the military needed a reliable and secure telecommunications junction to communicate with the rest of its national system. Microwave service was installed connecting Las Vegas to Potosi, Henderson and Angels Peak (Military). Initially Las Vegas was hosted out of AT&T's Reno primary office but later and still today hosted out of AT&T's San Bernardino Regional Office. Las Vegas was so small that it wasn't even given the status as a primary office and was considered just a Class 4 Toll Office with a #4A ETS switch. The office wasn't collocated at the main Las Vegas Central Office, because the office was operated by Central Telephone Company, which was not a "Bell" franchise, hence American Telephone and Telegraph built a separate building just to the east, across the alley of the existing central office. Today Las Vegas is a major hub in the southwest for fiber. Main routes now go from Las Vegas to: Adelanto, Kingman, Laughlin, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Provo, Reno, Salt Lake City and San Bernardino.
AT&T LAS VEGAS II SITE
This site was constructed in the early 1970's possibly as a repeater/regeneration station for a coax line from San Bernardino through Vegas to Salt Lake City. Located about 7 miles south of the downtown AT&T toll office adjacent to the McCarran Airport. This site wasn't considered a "junction" but split the path between Las Vegas and Henderson (Henderson subsequently removed) and then linked Las Vegas with Arden to the southwest. The microwave horns were removed a few years ago and only the bare tower remains.
Microwave paths from Las Vegas II were: Las Vegas Toll and Arden
