Fargo is the main tandem office for the Quest North Dakota Region and the toll office for AT&T. Fargo was originally designated as a Sectional Center in AT&T's hierarchy switching plan with direct trunk lines to Chicago's Regional Center. The office is now served by a 5ESS system and has direct fiber connections with Bismarck, St. Cloud and Esteven (Canada).
