AREA CODE 425

Area code 425 was split from 206 during 1997, and established to serve the northern and growing eastern Seattle suburbs, as well as the metropolitan area to the north including Everett and North Bend. Area was developed around independent telephone companies which eventually merged to become part of Continental Telephone (Contel), which became General Telephone (GTE), than Verizon Northwest and now Frontier Communications..




BELLEVUE "GLENCOURT"

Original Pacific Telephone & Telegraph --> Pacific Northwestern Bell --> US West --> Qwest now Century Link office. Bellevue is one of the fastest and most expensive growing regions in the Pacific Northwest.



BELLEVUE "SHERWOOD"

Original Pacific Northwestern Bell --> US West --> Qwest now Century Link office built in the 1960s to relieve the Bellevue Glencourt office and expand service to the growing suburbs east of the city.



EVERETT "PRIMARY CENTER"

The Everett Primary Center office was originally built by Continental Telephone (Contel) and served as the Tandem office for the region. Was once a Class 3 Primary Center under the Direct Distance Dialing hierarchy using a 4A switch and having a direct trunk connections to the Seattle Sectional Office and intertoll routes to Mount Vernon and South Whidbey toll offices. Became a GTE office --> Verizon Northwest and now Frontier.



JUANITA

Original Contel --> GTE --> Verizon Northwest --> Frontier Communications office built in the 1970s to serve the growing areas of north Kirkland.



KIRKLAND

Original Contel --> GTE --> Verizon Northwest and now Frontier Communications office serving the eastern Seattle suburb of Kirkland.



REDMOND

Original Contel --> GTE --> Verizon Northwest and now Frontier Communications office serving the eastern Seattle suburb of Redmond.



RENTON

Original Pacific Telephone & Telegraph --> Pacific Northwestern Bell --> US West --> Qwest now Century Link office.
