BLYTHE |
Originally constructed by Continental Telephone to serve the
Blythe region located along the Colorado River and Interstate 10.
Office became GTE then Verizon California and now Frontier Communications. Blythe was considered a Class 4 "Toll office" as part of the Direct Distance Dialing hierarchy and served as tandem office for numerous remotes and switches located along the Colorado River in both California and Arizona. Blythe was unique in it connected to two higher centers depending on weather the originating call was in Arizona or California. For Arizona (602) calls direct trunk groups were provided to the Phoenix Class 2 Sectional Center while California (714) calls had direct trunk groups to the San Bernardino Class 1 Regional Center. The office remained a a Tandem office until the early 2000's when it became a stand-alone digital switch. It is now homed on the Victorville Tandem office. |
