KELLER PEAK

 Keller Peak:

Type: Junction/Switched, AT&T TD-2

Location: San Bernardino Mountains atop Keller Peak.

Paths: Ranger, San Bernardino and Phelan

Notes: One of the highest sites in the California system.  This one is 7824 feet above sea level.

 

KELSO

Kelso

Type: Junction/Switched

Location: North side of the Kelso Mountains about 64 miles east of Dagget.  Very Remote

Paths: Cima, Granite Pass, Hector, Turquoise.

Notes: Kelso was a major interchange point between the west-east microwave paths of the south and south-mid Mojave routes. (Two of five major paths transitioning east to west from Southern California). Built 1962

 

LA 03 MADISON COMPLEX

 

Los Angeles Madison Complex

Type: Junction/Switched/Toll Office

Location:  Downtown Los Angeles on Olive Street

Paths: Arcadia, Padua Hills, Santiago Peak, Anaheim, Corona Del Mar, Los Angeles 09 (Richmond), Oat Mountain and Mount Gleason.

Notes: The most important microwave site in Southern California, almost all Socal long distance traffic was routed though this site before the journey south, east , or north.  Stylized tower design was necessary to receive a permit from the city to construct in the early 1960s.  For more info see: Los Angeles Madison Complex

 

LUCERNE VALLEY

Location: North side of White Mountains near Grapevine Canyon.  About 15 miles southeast of Hesperia.  Remote

Location: Just east of San Sevaine Flats in the San Gabriel Mountains.  About 7 miles from Ontario. Remote

Location: Just north of US-58 and northwest of Edwards Air Force Base.

Location: In the City of Newhall.

Paths: Hauser Mountain and Whitaker.

Notes: An aesthetically designed microwave structure due to the location of the site in a industrial/residential area.

OAT MOUNTAIN

Oat Mountain

Type: Junction/Switched

Location: Atop Oat Mountain

Paths: Hauser Mountain, Los Angeles 03 (Madison), Sherman Oaks, Trifuno Pass and Hall Canyon

Notes: A major switching point for Socal traffic going west along the costal route or north up and over the Grapevine (Tehachapi Mountains). Also was the switching point for satellite traffic coming from the Triunfo Pass Ground Station.

Location: In the western Chino Hills about 4 miles northeast of Brea.

Location: Downtown Ontario at the Verizon "Ontario" Central Office

Paths: Lytle Creek and Corona

Notes: Toll office for long distance call coming in/out of the Inland Empire.  Formally GTE now Verizon office.

Location: Atop Redonda Mesa, about 11 miles west of Temecula.  Remote.

Notes: A interesting tower design and a more recent addition to the AT&T system having been constructed in 1981.
